PURPOSE
As the official publication of the Society for Vascular Nursing, the Journal will publish, after editorial review,
selected papers presented at the annual convention of the Society, as well as original articles from members and nonmembers.
All
articles published in the Journal of Vascular Nursing (JVN) will be eligible for consideration for the annual JVN Writing Award.
The purpose of the Journal of Vascular Nursing is to provide nurses and other healthcare professionals with information to
foster expert clinical practice in vascular nursing.
EDITORIAL POLICIES
SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS
All new manuscripts
must be submitted through the Journal of Vascular Nursing online submission and review Web site (http://ees.elsevier.com/jvn/
). Authors are requested to submit the text, tables, and artwork in electronic form (not as a PDF) to this address. In an accompanying
letter, authors should state that the manuscript, or parts of it, have not been and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication.
Submission items include: • cover letter (save as a separate file for upload) • manuscript (including title page,
abstract, main text, references, and table/figure legends) • tables, and figures • Revised manuscripts should also
be accompanied by a unique file (separate from the cover letter) with responses to reviewers' comments
The preferred order of files
is as follows: • cover letter • response to reviews (revised manuscripts only) • manuscript file(s), table(s),
figure(s). Files should be labeled with appropriate and descriptive file names (e.g., SmithText.doc, Fig1.eps, Table3.doc). Upload text,
tables, and graphics (figures) as separate files. (You can compress multiple figure files into a Zip file and upload that in one step;
the system will then unpack the files and prompt you to name each figure.) Do not import figures or tables into the text document and do not upload your text as a PDF. Complete instructions for electronic artwork submission can be found on the Author Gateway,
accessible through the journal home page.
Authors who are unable to provide an electronic version or have other circumstances that
prevent online submission must contact Cindy Lewis, MSN, RN, Editor, Journal of Vascular Nursing, 203 Washington Street, PMB
311, Salem, MA 01970, phone (978) 744-5005 prior to submission to discuss alternate options. The Publisher and Editors regret that they
are not able to consider submissions that do not follow these procedures.
Review of Manuscripts. Manuscripts are reviewed
by the Editorial Board for accuracy, clarity, and significance to the practice of vascular nursing. The review process takes approximately
3 months. Accepted manuscripts are subject to copyediting to conform to the Journal's standards. Editing changes and recommendations
are subject to author approval on galley proofs before publication.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
Cover
Letter. A cover letter should identify the name, address, daytime telephone number, and fax number of the author(s).
Title
Page. The following order of items should appear on the title page: title of manuscript, full name of each author along with highest
earned academic degree and institutional affiliation; the name and address of the author who will receive reprint requests; acknowledgment
of any grant support or other financial assistance received; and if the paper has been previously presented, the meeting name, date,
and place where presented.
References. References should be cited selectively. All references should be verified and cited
consecutively in the text as superscript numerals. The reference list must be typed double-spaced on a separate page in numeric order.
A reference to an article in press must include the author name(s), title of article, and name of journal. A reference to a book in
press must include all information with the exception of the year of publication and page numbers. Reference format should conform to
that set forth in "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals" (Ann Intern Med 1997; 126:36-47). Abbreviations
of journal names should conform to those in Index Medicus. If there are three or fewer authors or editors, cit all; if there
are four or more authors or editors, cite the first three with "et al." If the journal is paged sequentially throughout the volume,
the issue number should not be cited; if the journal is not paged sequentially throughout the volume, then both the issue number and
the volume number should be cited. Note the following examples:
Book
Perry AG, Potter PA. Clinical nursing skills and techniques. St. Louis (MO):
Mosby; 1998.
Chapter in a book
Matsumura J. Surgery of the aorta. In: Fahey VA, editor. Vascular nursing. 3rd ed. Philadelphia:
WB Saunders; 1999.
Tables. Tables should be self-explanatory and not duplicate the text. Number tables consecutively in
Roman numerals according to the order of text citation. Provide a brief title for each table.
Permission and Consents. Written
permission of the copyright holder and author of figures, tables, or quotation (200 words or more) taken from copyrighted material must
accompany the submitted manuscript. The credit line should appear in the figure legend, as a footnote to the table, or as a footnote
to the text, and should be worded according to the copyright holder's specifications.
Subject or guardian consent must accompany
any photograph that shows a recognizable likeness of a subject.
The Journal of Vascular Nursing strongly supports human
and animal rights. Author(s) must demonstrate appropriate institutional or IRB approval.
EDITORIALS
Editorials should
be concise and should express the personal opinion of the author. An editorial should contain a minimum of references, if any. Editorial
material may include subjects of clinical interest, as well as topics of social significance. Guidelines for manuscript preparation
should be observed when writing an editorial.
REPRINTS
Individual reprints of an article may be obtained from the author.
