From the Editor’s perspective…
Article Outline
The Journal of Vascular Nursing (JVN) is committed to integrating evidence into vascular nursing practice, education, and publications. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an approach to patient care that incorporates the use of best evidence from research, clinician’s expertise, judgment, skills, and patient values and preferences. It involves systematic inquiry to prove or disprove hypotheses and the selection of appropriate clinical actions. In the practice setting, this results in the creation of clinical protocols to guide consistent and safe care. The ultimate goal is to produce better outcomes in patient care.
JVN is soliciting manuscripts on the implementation of research evidence into nursing practice, research, literature reviews, practice guidelines, improvement data and/or case studies.
We are also soliciting manuscripts, brief reports, or editorials on poverty and human development issues. Our online submission process identifies the necessary elements for manuscript submissions (http://ees.elsevier.com/jvn/). In addition, JVN encourages and supports the publication of letters to the Editor, editorials, brief reports, or columns. Consider sharing EBP information to help nurses integrate research-based findings into practice, integrated care scenarios involving complementary and alternative therapies into care, case analysis related to nursing management of a disorder, step-by-step decision making regarding complicated diagnostic issues, review patient education material instruction, overview of symptom management, aging or palliative care issues. Share your preliminary research, pilot studies, or studies with small sample size or inconsistent results. Discuss self-care strategies for the nurse or discuss professional, legal, or ethical issues facing nursing.
In order to move research findings into practice it is necessary for all of us to share our knowledge and skills. Access to the information and identification of resources and mentors will help facilitate this implementation. We all need to make a commitment to utilize and share our successes to promote positive practice changes. We need to identify evidence-based patient teaching resources. Share your evidence-based patient pathways, patient teaching materials, discuss successful examples of incorporating evidence into practice with your peers, share your outcome data and results. If the ultimate goal for nursing is to organize, integrate, retrieve, and apply knowledge regularly, sharing the knowledge is essential. JVN offers you the opportunity to share and apply your knowledge. I look forward to hearing from you!
